Germany soccer team captain, Michael Ballack is out of 2010 FIFA world cup. He was injured in FA cup final against Portsmouth while playing for Chelsea. It is a huge setback to Germany hopes in FIFA world cup.
Tackle was done by Kevin-Prince Boateng (Ghana and Portsmouth). Surprisingly, Ghana is also in Germany group. Boateng was born in Germany but plays for Ghana. He played for Germany U-21 team. There was already quarrel history (over a remark – “You’ve scored one goal, and you think you are the best”) between Boeteng and Ballack when they played in German league.
Is this a voluntary attack by Boeteng to take revenge on Ballack? We can not rule out but difficult to prove. In that FA cup final match, Ballack slapped Boeteng on face. His brother, Jerome Boateng, plays for Germany in 2010 FIFA world cup.
Watch FA Cup final video:
Observe the Ballack’s slap on Boeteng and his “revenge tackle” on Ballack. But, Boeteng got only yellow card for this (voluntary/involunary) act.
Observe the tackle. You know the truth. You should be careful while dealing with players like Roy Keane, Gattuso and Boeteng etc. They are dangerous.
It is a big blow for Germany after missing first choice wicket-keeper, Rene Adler. Boeteng is now most hated figure in Germany. Boeteng’s mother is a German while his father hails from Ghana.
Michael Ballack played in 98 matches for Germany and scored 42 goals.
Ballack’s importance: In 2002 FIFA world cup, Germany was unstoppable till final. But, Ballack was not played in final due to red card. Germany lost to Brazil.
Germany is famous for tenacity in word cups and always play well in FIFA world cups irrespective of form. Experience counts in mid-field and defence. Germany will surely miss Ballck’s experience and leadership.
Germany is already in tough group (Group D). Its oppoents are Ghana, Serbia and Australia. Germany will play with Ghana on June 23.
I will not be surprised if Germany fails to reach knocout stage. But, never underestimate Germany at FIFA world cups.
