The global footballer’s union, FIFPro, selected best footballers of the 2006-07 season. Barcelona dominated the list with 3 players (Ronaldinho, Lionel Messi and Carles Puyol) and Spanish league and English premier league topped the list with 4 players followed by Italian Series A with 3 players. FIFPro best football team for 2006-07 season:

1. Goal-keeper: Buffon. Peter Cech missed due to injury and Buffon’s wonderful performance in 2006 Soccer world cup.

2. Defenders:

A. Nesta: Wonderful performances for Italy (Football World cup) and AC Milan (Champions Trophy).

B. Cannavaro: Player of the tournament in 2006 world cup.

C. John Terry: Solid performance for Chelsea. Vidic and Ferdinand narrowly missed the selection despite superb performances for Manchester United.

D. Puyol: Star defender for Barcelona.

3. Mid-Fielders: Cesc Fabregas and Frank Lampard may give tough completion in the next year selection.

A. Cristiano Ronaldo: Major force behind Manchester United success.

B. Kaka: He is world’s best footballer in the last season. He dicimated Manchester United in the Champions League with a stunning display.

C. Steven Gerrard: Liverpool’s sole inspirational figure despite average performances for England.

4. Forwards:

A. Lionel Messi: My favourite player. If Argentina coach were believed in his abilities, Argentina would have won the 2006 FIFA world Cup in Germany.

B. Didier Drogba: Indomitable force in the Chelsea lineup.

C. Ronaldinho: Controversial selection. Totti should be selected in his place. Sometimes, aura works.

Missing stars: Van Nistelrooy, Totti, Andrea Pirlo, Vidic, Ferdinand etc.
